An improved system is provided for authentication of mail pieces bearing bar- coded indicia. The system comprises first and second bar-code readers (23, 28), differing in that the first bar-code reader has a lower rate of successful reading of bar-coded indicia than the second bar-code reader. The system collates a mail piece bearing an indicium in a second paper path (26) in the event of a successful reading of the bar-coded indicium by said first bar-code reader, and collates mail pieces in a third paper path (25) in the event of an unsuccessful reading of the bar-coded indicium by the first bar- code reader. The third paper path leads to the second bar-code reader, and the system collates mail pieces in a fourth paper path (30) in the event of a successful reading of the bar-coded indicium by the second bar-code reader. The system collates mail pieces in fifth paper path (33) in the event of an unsuccessful reading of the bar-coded indicium by the second bar-code reader.
L'invention concerne un système amélioré d'authentification des envois postaux portant une marque d'affranchissement en code-barres (voir fig. 1). Ce système comprend un premier et un second lecteur (13, 18) de code-barres. Lors de la lecture des marques d'affranchissement, le premier lecteur de code-barres présente un taux de réussite plus faible que le second lecteur de code-barres. Ce système dirige un envoi postal portant une marque d'affranchissement dans une seconde trajectoire (26) de transport de papier, lorsque le code-barres d'affranchissement est lu avec succès par le premier lecteur de code-barres, et dirige les envois postaux dans une troisième trajectoire (25) de transport de papier en cas d'échec de la lecture du code-barres d'affranchissement par le premier lecteur de code-barres. La troisième trajectoire conduit au second lecteur de code-barres, et si ce dernier parvient à lire avec succès le code-barres d'affranchissement, le système dirige les envois postaux dans une quatrième (30) trajectoire (30). Enfin, le système dirige les envois postaux dans une cinquième trajectoire si la lecture du code-barres d'affranchissement par le second lecteur de code-barres échoue.
