Improved automated synthesis of human audible speech from text is disclosed. Performance enhancement of the underlying text comprehensibility is obtained through prosodic treatment of the synthesized material, improved speaking rate treatment, and improved methods of spelling words or terms for the sysstem user. Prosodic shaping of text sequences appropriate for the discourse in large groupings of text segments, with prosodic boundaries developed to indicate conceptual units within the text groupings, is implemented in a preferred embodiment.

L'invention concerne la synthèse automatique améliorée du discours humain sonore à partir du texte. L'amélioration du rendement de l'intelligibilité du texte original est obtenue au moyen du traitement prosodique du matériel synthétisé, du traitement amélioré du débit de parole, ainsi qu'au moyen de méthodes améliorées d'orthographier les mots ou les termes pour l'utilisateur du système. Le façonnage prosodique des séquences de textes appropriées pour le discours dans de grands regroupements de segments de textes, avec des limites prosodiques élaborées pour indiquer les unités conceptuelles au sein des regroupements de textes, est mis en ouvre dans un mode réalisation préféré.
