A surgical device for cutting substantially across a cornea of an eye of a patient, the device including a positioning ring structured to be temporarily attached to a portion of the eye surrounding the cornea to be cut, and defining an aperture sized to receive and expose the cornea to be cut. The surgical device further includes a cutting head assembly structured to be guided and driven over an upper surface of the positioning ring in a generally arcuate path, and having a cutting element positioned therein and structured to oscillate laterally to facilitate smooth and effective cutting of the cornea. The cutting head assembly is structured to be detachably coupled to the positioning ring by a coupling member which permits movement of the cutting head assembly relative to the positioning ring along the generally arcuate path, but maintains sufficient engagement therebetween to ensure that smooth, steady, driven movement is maintained.
L'invention porte sur un instrument chirurgical servant à pratiquer une grande incision sur la cornée de l'oil d'un patient. L'instrument comprend un anneau de positionnement conçu pour être temporairement fixé à la portion de l'oil entourant la cornée à inciser. L'anneau définit une ouverture permettant de recevoir et d'exposer la cornée à inciser. L'instrument chirurgical comprend également un ensemble tête de coupe conçu pour être guidé sur la surface supérieure de l'anneau de positionnement afin de suivre un trajet généralement arqué. Il présente un élément tranchant à l'intérieur et est conçu pour osciller latéralement afin de favoriser une incision régulière et efficace de la cornée. L'ensemble tête de coupe, qui est amovible, a été conçu pour être couplé à l'anneau de positionnement par l'entremise d'un élément de couplage qui permet le déplacement de l'ensemble tête de coupe par rapport à l'anneau de positionnement le long d'un trajet généralement en arc. Cependant, il retient suffisamment les deux éléments pour assurer un mouvement régulier, ferme et guidé.
