An improved coding system (fig. 1) for digital compression applicable as a digital compression algorithm for increasing the bandwidth of telecommunications and broadcasting network. The system operates in the transmission regime, not in a baseband (source) so that a transmission channel having a capacity of Mbits/s can deliver Nbit/s channel, where N bits in parallel are combined to the delivered in the 1 Mbit/s channel. The system includes the steps of simultaneously encoding (2) a first group of parallel binary bits (1a-1d) into a digitized voltage amplitude signal in a predetermined bit interval, modulating a carrier with the digitized voltage amplitude signal, transmitting the modulated carrier (fig. 2) over a bandwidth limited communication highway having intrinsic noise therein, demodulating said modulated carrier signal and receiving said digitized voltage amplitude signal, said demodulating means (fig. 3) substantially cancelling said intrinsic noise and improving said output signal noise ratio; and decoding (5 fig. 1) the digitized voltage amplitude signal received in the predetermined bit interval into a second group of parallel binary bits which correspond to the first group of parallel binary bits.

Système de codage amélioré (fig. 1) servant à effectuer une compression numérique et pouvant être appliqué en tant algorithme permettant d'augmenter la largeur de bande du réseau de télécommunications et de diffusion. Ce système fonctionne dans le régime de transmission et non en bande de base (source), de sorte qu'un canal de transmission possédant une capacité de Mbit/s peut produire Nbit/s, N bits en parallèle étant combinés afin d'être transmis dans le canal 1 de Mbit/s. Ce système consiste à coder simultanément (2) un premier groupe de bits binaires parallèles (1a-1d) afin d'obtenir un signal numérisé d'amplitude de tension dans un intervalle binaire prédéterminé, à moduler une porteuse avec le signal numérique d'amplitude de tension, à transmettre la porteuse modulée (fig. 2) sur une voie principale de communication limitée en largeur de bande comportant un bruit intrinsèque, à démoduler ledit signal de porteuse modulée et à recevoir ledit signal numérisé d'amplitude de tension, lesdits moyens de démodulation (fig. 3) annulant pratiquement ledit bruit intrinsèque et améliorant ledit rapport de bruit de signal de sortie, puis à décoder (5 fig. 1) le signal numérisé d'amplitude de tension reçu dans l'intervalle binaire prédéterminé afin d'obtenir un deuxième groupe de bits binaires parallèles correspondant au premier groupe de bits binaires parallèles.
