A cord reel assembly is provided which includes a housing (4) including a funnel-shaped port (12), a spool (32) journalled within the housing (4), and a cord (14) wound about the spool (32) and having an end portion exiting the housing (4) via the funnel-shaped port (12). The housing (4) typically includes first and second opposing walls (6, 8) generally perpendicular to an axis of rotation of the spool (32), and a bridging wall (10) connecting the first and second walls (6, 8). The funnel-shaped exit port (12) extends outwardly from the bridging wall (10).
