A crutch construction including an adapter having a central passage and a pair of recesses disposed on either side of the passage. Corresponding ends of crutch bows are secured within the recesses and a foot piece is slidably mounted within the passage. The adapter is provided with a pair of aligned holes that border the passage and the foot piece has a plurality of vertically spaced apertures to be selectively aligned with said pair of holes. To lock the foot piece to the adapter a locking clip is mounted on the adapter and includes a central pin that is received within an aperture and the pair of aligned holes, and a pair of arms are spaced outwardly in parallel relation to said pin and terminate in lips which engage abutments on the outer surface of the adapter to prevent free removal of the pin from the aperture and holes.
