L'acier à emboutissabilité améliorée est caractérisé en ce qu'il contient du carbone dans use proportion inférieure à 0,015 %, du manganèse dans une proportion de 0,15 à 0,25 % du soufre dans une proportion inférieure à 0,012 % et de l'aluminium dans une proportion inférieure à 0,014 %. Cet acier est destiné à la fabrication de tôles minces destinées à l'emboutissage, selon un procédé comportant notamment les opérations suivantes : - élaboration en convertisseur d'un acier ayant la composition ci-dessus ; - laminage à chaud entièrement en domaine austénitique ; - bobinage à une température supérieure à 650°C - recuit continu, après laminage à froid, à une température inférieure à 700°C.
