An eyes-up instrument (10) having a transparent display (16, 54, 60) is disclosed which is mountable on or above the dashboard (55) of a vehicle to allow the instrument to be read by a vehicle operator without lowering his eyes (85) to the vehicle instrument panel. The display of the instrument is transparent and therefore does not interfere substantially with the view of the operator. The compact design of the instrument and use of a miniature crossed coil gauge (24, 52, 68, 70, 72, 74, 84) supported in the display itself allow it to be mounted unobtrusively on a dashboard even in applications where transparency is not required.

La présente invention concerne un instrument à visualisation tête haute (10) doté d'un dispositif d'affichage transparent (16, 54, 60) et pouvant être monté sur le tableau de bord (55) d'un véhicule ou au-dessus de celui-ci de façon qu'il peut être lu par l'opérateur du véhicule sans que ce dernier doive baisser les yeux (85) sur le tableau de bord. Le dispositif d'affichage de l'instrument, qui est transparent, ne gène pratiquement pas la vue de l'opérateur. L'encombrement réduit de l'instrument et l'utilisation d'une jauge miniature à enroulements en orientation croisée (24, 52, 68, 70, 72, 74, 84) supportée dans le dispositif d'affichage lui-même permet de monter l'instrument de façon discrète sur le tableau de bord, même pour des applications dans lesquelles la transparence n'est pas nécessaire.
