Boring apparatus for forming a generally horizontal underground passage (10) in soil for a utility conduit or the like that includes a tool head (24) with a base portion (26) and a nose portion (28) mounted on the base portion. The base portion is rotatable relative to the nose portion between a first position in which nose portion surfaces are symmetrical with respect to the tool axis so that the tool will move along a straight path and a second position in which nose portion surfaces are in asymmetrical position with respect to the tool axis so that said tool will move along a curved path. By application of torque to the base portion, the base portion is shifted relative to the nose portion to shift the tool head from between an asymmetrical configuration and symmetrical configuration.

L'invention concerne un appareil pour forer un passage souterrain horizontal (10) dans le sol, pour y loger une ligne d'alimentation ou analogue, qui comporte une tête (24) d'outil avec une partie de base (26) et une partie de nez (28) montée sur la partie de base. La partie de base peut tourner par rapport à la partie de nez entre une première position dans laquelle les surfaces de la partie de nez sont symétriques par rapport à l'axe de l'outil, de sorte que l'outil se déplace suivant une trajectoire droite, et une seconde position dans laquelle les surfaces de la partie de nez ne sont plus dans une position symétrique par rapport à l'axe de l'outil, si bien que ledit outil se déplace suivant une trajectoire courbe. L'application d'un couple à la partie de base la fait se déplacer par rapport à la partie de nez pour faire passer la tête de l'outil d'une configuration non symétrique à une configuration symétrique et inversement.
