An improved I/O device, such as an audio/video router, includes at least a motherboard, such as a matrix board, including a plurality of locating slots and a plurality of connectors located on the motherboard such that when the motherboard is mounted in the I/O device, the plurality of connectors are positioned horizontally across the I/O device. The I/O device further includes a plurality of input/output (I/O) cards, such as audio/video cards, each of the I/O cards including a locating slot and two I/O connectors. In an I/O device of the present invention, the locating slot of each of the I/O cards mates with a respective locating slot of the motherboard such that the two I/O connectors of each of the I/O cards vertically straddle a respective connector of the motherboard thus maximizing a number of inputs and outputs able to be provided in the rear of the I/O device.

L'invention porte sur un dispositif E/S amélioré, tel qu'un routeur audio/vidéo, comprenant au moins une carte mère telle qu'une carte matrice comprenant une pluralité de fentes de fixation et une pluralité de connecteurs placés sur la carte mère de manière à monter la carte mère dans le dispositif E/S, les connecteurs étant positionnés horizontalement dans le dispositif E/S. Le dispositif E/S comprend également une pluralité de cartes entrée/sortie (E/S) telles que des cartes audio/vidéo, chacune es cartes E/S comprenant une fente de fixation et deux connecteurs E/S. Dans un dispositif E/S de l'invention, la fente de fixation de chacune des cartes E/S s'accouple à une fente de fixation respective de la carte mère de sorte que les deux connecteurs E/S de chacune des cartes E/S chevauchent verticalement un connecteur respectif de la carte mère, ce qui maximise un nombre d'entrées et de sorties pouvant être ménagés à l'arrière du dispositif E/S.
