Isolated polynucleotides encoding polypeptides having the activity of enzymes in the mevalonate pathway, e.g. hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase, isopetenyl diphosphate isomerase, hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA synthase, mevolante kinase, phosphomevalonate kinase, or diphosphomevalonate decarboxylase; are provided, useful for recombinantly producing isoprenoid compounds such as carotenoids like phytoene, lycopene, .beta.-carotene, zeaxanthin, canthaxanthin, astaxanthin, adonixanthin, cryptoxanthin, echinenone and adonirubin. Expression vectors, cultured cells, and methods of making isoprenoid compounds are also provided.
L'invention porte sur des polynucléotides isolés codant des polypeptides faisant preuve d'une activité enzymatique dans la voie de mévalonate, notamment de l'hydroxyméthylglutaryl-CoA réductase, isopentényle diphosphate isomérase, hydroxyméthylglutaryl-CoA synthase, mévalonate kinase, phosphomévalonate kinase ou diphosphomévalonate décarboxylase. L'invention convient à la production de composés d'isoprénoïdes par recombinaison, tels que le phytoène de type caroténoïdes, le lycopène, le .beta.-carotène, la zéaxanthine, la canthaxanthine, l'astaxanthine, l'adonixanthine, la cryptoxanthine, l'échinénone et l'adonirubine. Font également l'objet de cette invention des vecteurs d'expression, des cellules cultivées et des procédés de préparation de composés d'isoprénoïdes.
