A flexible coaxial cable comprises a core including at least one inner conductor and a foam polymer dielectric surrounding the inner conductor. The flexible coaxial cable also includes an electrically and mechanically continuous tubular copper sheath closely surrounding the core and adhesively bonded to the core. A protective outer jacket surrounds the tubular metallic sheath and is adhesively bonded to the tubular metallic sheath to increase the bending properties of the cable. The bond peel strength of the adhesive bond between the polymer jacket and the sheath is no more than 36 lb./in to provide a coaxial cable having excellent bending characteristics and which can be easily stripped to provide an electrical connection between the coaxial cable and other conductive elements. The present invention also includes a method of making flexible coaxial cable.

L'invention concerne un câble coaxial flexible ayant une âme qui comprend au moins un conducteur central et un matériau diélectrique en polymère mousse autour de ce conducteur. Le câble coaxial flexible comprend aussi une gaine en cuivre tubulaire continue du point de vue électrique et mécanique, entourant l'âme et fixée par collage à celle-ci. Une enveloppe de protection entoure la gaine métallique tubulaire, elle aussi fixée par collage à ladite gaine pour améliorer les propriétés de flexion du câble. La résistance au délaminage de la liaison collée entre la gaine en polymère et l'enveloppe n'excède pas 36 livres par pouce, ce qui confère au câble coaxial d'excellentes caractéristiques de flexion et permet facilement le dénudage du câble pour établir des connexions électriques entre ce câble et différents éléments conducteurs. On décrit aussi un procédé de fabrication du câble coaxial flexible.
