An improved medical laser treatment system (10) and method generate a beam of laser energy at a predetermined wavelength; transmit the beam of laser energy along a path (20) to a medical treatment site; deliver to the medical treatment site an insufflation gas (28) which is absorbent at the predetermined wavelength; and introduce into the path of the beam of laser energy a non-absorbent purge gas (32) which is transparent to the predetermined wavelength of the laser (16), at a flow rate for opposing the influx of insufflating gas to reduce the resonant absorption of the laser beam energy.
L'invention concerne un système laser (10) à usage médical et un procédé utilisant ce système. Dans ce procédé, on produit un faisceau laser ayant une longueur d'onde prédéterminée. Le faisceau laser est transmis suivant une conduite (20) jusqu'au site d'intervention médicale. On injecte au site en question un gaz (28) qui absorbe la lumière laser choisie. On alimente la conduite du faisceau laser avec un gaz de purge (32), qui est transparent à la lumière du laser (16) et ne l'absorbe pas, avec un débit suffisant pour y empêcher l'entrée du gaz absorbant la lumière laser et y limiter l'absorption de lumière par résonance.
