The present invention provides a plastic part with a surface area of a semi- rigid sheet material (10) such as metal, wood or wood-based paper product and a novel process where the sheet material edges are covered with a second plastic component (30) that adheres both to the sheet material (10) and to the first plastic material (20). A first plastic substrate component (20) is prepared with an adhered sheet material surface area and then the edges (19) of the sheet material (10) are overlapped by a second molded-on, plastic edge- covering component (39). A preferred sheet material laminate structure is also provided with a backing layer that protects an interior adhesive layer. The second molded-on edge-covering component (30) covers the sheet material edge (18) to provide an aesthetically pleasing surface. This construction produces a more durable sheet material edge covering and eliminates the tendency of the sheet material (10) to peel off the molded part during use.
La présente invention concerne une pièce en plastique pourvue d'une surface de contact d'une matière de feuille semi-rigide (10), telle que du métal, du bois ou un produit en papier à base de bois, et un nouveau processus, au cours duquel les bords de la matière de feuille sont recouverts d'un second composant plastique (30) qui adhère sur ladite matière de feuille (10) et sur la première matière plastique (20). Un premier composant de substrat plastique (20) est préparé avec une surface de contact de la matière de feuille adhérée et, puis, les bords (19) de la matière de feuille (10) sont couverts par un second composant de revêtement de bord plastique, moulé (39). Une structure laminée de matière de feuille préférée est également pourvue d'une couche de support qui protège une couche adhésive interne. Ledit second composant de revêtement de bord moulé (30) recouvre le bord de la matière de feuille (18) afin d'engendrer une surface esthétiquement plaisante. Cette conception permet de produire un revêtement de bord de matière de feuille plus durable et d'éliminer la tendance de ladite matière de feuille (10) de s'enlever par pelage de la pièce moulée, lors de l'utilisation.
