A patient support apparatus which includes a unitary body support portion constructed of foam, the foam enveloped in a plastic sheath for contact with the patient, with the covered foam having a first side for placement on a bed or gurney, and the second side upon which the body of the patient would be laid. The plastic enveloped foam apparatus would include a head portion, defining a space upon which a persons head would rest, confined with a air of raised wall portions, a recessed upper torso portion, to accomodate the person's upper back, so that the arms may be folded inward; a raised portion directly below the upper torso portion, which provides support to the small of the back; a recessed portion below the raised portion for accommodating the upper thighs of the person, a raised portion below the recessed portion for raising the knees slightly for relieving stress on the hips and spine, and terminating so that the feet of the person hang from the end of the apparatus, and are not supported on the surface of the apparatus.
