A method of depositing a coating (108) of spray particles from a coating material feed (102) onto a target substrate (106). A plasma arc is provided in a gas through which passes a plasma arc current. The plasma arc current is modulated by plasma arc current pulses having a frequency and a magnitude. The coating (108) is provided by injecting the coating material into the plasma arc from a coating material feed (102). The deposition rate of spray coating (108) is measured. The standoff distance (110) between the target substrate (106) and the coating material feed (102) is adjusted to provide maximum deposition rate. Other features of the spray process can also be measured and adjusted.
L'invention porte sur un procédé de dépôt d'un revêtement (108) sur un substrat cible (106) par projection de particules provenant d'un matériau (102) d'apport. Un jet de plasma est établi dans un gaz traversé par un courant d'arc au plasma, ledit courant étant modulé par des impulsions du courant d'arc au plasma à haute fréquence et forte intensité. Le revêtement (108) résulte de l'injection dans l'arc du matériau de revêtement constitué par le matériau d'apport (102). On mesure la vitesse de dépôt, et on règle l'écartement (110) entre le substrat cible (106) et le matériau d'apport (102) pour obtenir la vitesse la plus élevée possible. On peut également mesurer et régler d'autres paramètres du processus de projection.
