The printhead of an ink jet printer includes an electrically conductive plastic chassis (18, 46, 60) and charging electrode (19, 28, 29). The plastic chassis (18, 46, 60) can be conducted of plastic resins such as polyester, nylon, acetal, and polyphenylene sulphide imbedded with electrically conductive fibres such as carbon and stainless steel. The fibres can be coated with nickel to improve the shielding characteristics of the material.
