A process of preparing alkyl or aryl aldehydes using Grignard protected aldehydes and alkyl or benzyl halides is provided. The Grignard protected aldehyde is reacted with the halide in the presence of a copper catalyst and the product of that reaction is selectively deprotected by hydrolysis.

Procédé de préparation d'aldéhydes d'alkyle ou d'aryle au moyen d'aldéhydes protégés par grignard et d'halogénures d'alkyle ou de benzyle. On fait réagir cet aldéhyde protégé par grignard avec l'halogénure en présence d'un catalyseur au cuivre, et le produit de cette réaction est sélectivement déprotégé par hydrolyse.
