An improved process for preparing a vinyl-substituted dioxo compound, in which process a vinyl aldehyde is reacted with a compound having three or more hydroxyl groups. In particular, the reaction is carried out, using an acid catalyst, in an organic solvent comprising an aliphatic solvent which forms a binary azeotrope with water as the reaction is driven to completion.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé amélioré, conçu pour préparer un composé dioxo à substitution vinyle, selon lequel on fait réagir un aldéhyde vinylique avec un composé possédant au moins trois groupes hydroxyle. La réaction s'effectue notamment à l'aide d'un catalyseur acide dans un solvant organique comprenant un solvant aliphatique qui forme un azéotrope binaire avec de l'eau lorsque la réaction est complète.
