Large sections of solution annealed, precipitation hardenable alloys which are resistant to internal cracking yet fully hardenale can be produced if, during rapid quenching, the temperature of the section is allowed to stabilize immediately above the alloy's solvus temperature before the section is rapidly quenched. Preferably, the temperature of the section is allowed to stabilize a second time, this time at an elevated temperature not so high that significant phase changes occur, before the section is cooled to ambient.
La présente invention permet de produire de grandes sections d'alliages durcissables par précipitation et recuits par mise en solution qui sont résistants aux fissures internes tout en étant entièrement durcissables, en laissant, au cours de la trempe, la température de la section se stabiliser immédiatement au-dessus de la température solvus de l'alliage, juste avant le refroidissement rapide de la section. On laisse de préférence la température de la section se stabiliser à une deuxième reprise à une température élevée cette fois, mais pas assez élevée pour permettre des changements de phase significatifs, avant de laisser refroidir la section à température ambiante.
