The present invention is an improved resilient composite material for sealing gaps between the edge of an opening and a complementary sealing element, such as sealing an opening in an aircraft fuselage and the lid closing said opening, or sealing between aircraft fuselage and windows or windshields. The composite material comprises a substrate of a porous polymeric material having an open cell structure that is subsequently permeated with curable silicone or fluoroelastomer. By forming the composite as a sealing tape or bead, it may be readily installed in a wide variety of gasket applications. It is particularly suitable for highly demanding gasketing application, such as those encountered by high flying aircraft. For further improved properties, the composite material may further include a filling or plating of metal powder or other conductive filings so that a sealing tape is rendered thermally or electrically conductive.
