An improved sheet metal clip (12) is interconnected in a collated stack of clips (26) with a plastic rope (22) in- serted within slots (20) on each side edge of each clip (12). Each clip (12) is generally U- shaped having a crown por- tion (24) with a pair of paral- lel spaced leg portions (16) de- pending from the crown portion (24). The rope (22) is inserted within slots (20) formed in the side edges of each clip (12). The preferred embodiments of the improved clip (12) include slots (20) which are obliquely angled relative to the side edge of the clip, slots (44) which are in a keyhole configuration hav- ing a narrowed throat portion (46) and an enlarged opening (48), and slots (56) which are both obliquely angled and in the keyhole configuration. The rope (22) is retained within the slots by a variety of mecha- nisms and methods disclosed herein.
