A spring brake actuator which combines the advantages of piston and diaphragm- type brake actuators having superior performance at reduced cost. The spring brake actuator includes a tubular flexible diaphragm (54) having one end (136) secured between the rim portions (132, 130, respectively) of the cup-shaped housing (28) and cover (32), and an inverted second end portion (58) which is received around a rim portion of a cup-shaped piston (40) and secured in sealed relation with a flexible band (124). A power spring (52) is received within opposed cup-shaped portions of the piston and cover. A rim portion (46) of the piston is biased against a generally radial portion (36) of the cover, permitting use of a power spring having increased performance.
L'invention concerne un actionneur de frein à ressort combinant les avantages d'actionneurs de frein de type diaphragme et piston présentant une meilleure performance pour un coût réduit. L'actionneur de frein à ressort est composé d'un diaphragme souple tubulaire (54) dont une extrémité (136) est fixée entre les parties latérales (respectivement 132 et 130) du logement de forme incurvée (28) et le couvercle (32) et d'une seconde extrémité inversée (58) reçue autour de la partie de bord du piston de forme incurvée (40) et fixé de manière étanche à une bande souple (124). Un ressort moteur (52) est reçu à l'intérieur des parties de forme incurvée opposées du piston et du couvercle. Une partie latérale (46) du piston est orienté vers une partie principalement radiale (36) du couvercle permettant l'utilisation d'un ressort moteur présentant une performance accrue.
