A building structure including a beam-to-column, and beam-to-beam structural joint connection, said joint connection cimprisint: a col-umn to provide support for said building structure; a pair of beams disposed on opposite sides of said column; wherein each of said beams has a respec-tive one end thereof attached to said column in a beam-to-column joint connection transferring gravi-ty load from said beam to said column and having sufficient strength to sustain axial tension substan-tially equal to the ultimate tensile capacity of said beam; wherein said joint connection includes: a pair of spaced apart gusset plates (34, 36) horizon-tally sandwiching said column so that said gusset plates extend along opposite sides of and are joined to both said column and said pair of beams; where- by, axial tension and moment loads caused by earthquake, severe weather, or another stressing event is sustained by said building, and whereby an extraordinary "double-span" condition for said pair of beams resulting from the loss of support by said column caused by explosive blast is also sustained by said building structure without progressive col-lapse.

L'invention concerne une structure de bâtiment comprenant un assemblage articulé structural de poutre à poteau et de poutre à poutre, ledit assemblage comprenant: un poteau pour assurer le support pour ladite structure de bâtiment; une paire de poutres disposée sur des côtés opposés dudit poteau; chacune desdites poutres présentant une extrémité respective fixée à ladite colonne selon un assemblage articulé structural de poutre à poteau transférant une charge de gravité de ladite poutre vers ledit poteau et présentant une résistance suffisante pour supporter une tension axiale sensiblement égale à la capacité en traction maximale de ladite poutre; ledit assemblage articulé comprenant: une paire de goussets séparés (34, 36) prenant horizontalement en sandwich ledit poteau de sorte que lesdits goussets s'étendent le long des côtés opposés et sont assemblés audit poteau et à ladite paire de poutres; ainsi, la tension axiale et les charges de moment provoquées par les séismes, des conditions météorologiques particulièrement mauvaises, ou un autre événement de stress est supportée par ledit bâtiment, et un état en "double travée" extraordinaire pour ladite paire de poutres résultant de la perte de support par ledit poteau provoquée par un souffle dû à une explosion étant ainsi également supportées par ladite structure de bâtiment sans effondrement progressif.
