The present invention provides in one aspect a braking mechanism for slowing the release of torsional potential energy in a rod string of a wellhead drive system on the shutdown or power failure thereof. The braking mechanism, without using a slip clutch, slows the backspin of the rod string by using the rotational energy of the rod string to turn a fluid pump to pump fluid through a constriction orifice in a closed fluid circuit. The present invention reduces the space required for the braking mechanism and moreover reduces the number of moving parts within the braking mechanism which may reduce the likelihood that the braking mechanism will require maintenance or fail, as well as reduce the manufacturing cost. In another aspect, the present invention provides a wellhead drive system for driving a rotary downhole pump which includes the inventive braking mechanism described above.
La présente invention vise à fournir, dans une version, un mécanisme de freinage pour ralentir la libération d'énergie de torsion potentielle dans un train de tiges d'un système d'entraînement de tête de puits lors d'une coupure ou d'une panne de courant dudit système. Le mécanisme de freinage ralentit l'effet rétro du train de tiges en ayant recours à l'énergie de rotation du train de tiges pour faire tourner une pompe de fluide, lequel pompe du fluide à travers un orifice d'étranglement dans un circuit de fluide fermé. La présente invention permet de réduire l'espace nécessaire au mécanisme de freinage; il réduit également le nombre de pièces mobiles du mécanisme de freinage, ce qui peut réduire la probabilité que ledit mécanisme nécessite de l'entretien ou fasse défaut, de même que les coûts de fabrication. Dans une autre version, l'invention prévoit un système d'entraînement de tête de puits pour commander une pompe rotative de fond de puits qui comprend le mécanisme de freinage innovateur décrit plus haut.
