A fastening apparatus (1) for use with a closure means, including a latch (2) configured to receive a catch (3) that is attached to a closure means, characterised in that the latch includes a lever (10) attached to a release mechanism (14) for the fastening apparatus wherein the lever extends outwards from the closure means when the closure means is held in the open position.
