The present invention provides a bearing system, particularly suited to bridges and other civil engineering applications, which more readily stands hostile environments over extended periods. The bearing system includes one or more contact surfaces (34) in which the contact surface is formed from a fiber reinforced material. The use of fabric reinforced thermosetting resins is preferred. The contact surface (34) may additionally be provided with a series of recesses (50) filled with lubricating material.

La présente invention se rapporte à un système de paliers, notamment des paliers appropriés à des ponts et à d'autres applications de génie civil qui peuvent facilement résister à des environnements hostiles sur des durées prolongées. Ce sytème de paliers comporte au moins une surface de contact (34) constituée d'un matériau renforcé par des fibres. Il est préférable d'utiliser des résines thermodurcissables renforcées par une toile. La surface de contact (34) peut être de plus pourvue d'une série d'évidements (50) remplis d'une substance lubrifiante.
