ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to underwater suction pump dredging apparatus and the mouth end parts and intake openings thereof; and is directed to a mouth end part with a tapering forwardly extending nose, an apertured screen or filter member for the opening and a rotatable member having a plurality of peripheral surface projections spaced and dimensioned to be locatable in the filter member fluid admitting apertures, the filter member and rotatable member being movable relative one to the other so that the filter member apertures can be continually or intermittently cleared of oversized extraneous objects by the projections as the relative movement takes place to prevent clogging of the filter member and intake opening. Preferred embodiments include a filter member in the form of an endless apertured belt located over rollers, at least one of which has the peripheral projections; and an endless link chain arrangement located over toothed chain wheels, the links defining the fluid admitting apertures and the chain wheel teeth defining the aperture clearing projections.
