The invention relates to a general purpose valve, wherein liquid flow therethrough is controlled by rotation of a spindle. The valve comprises a valve body with a fluid inlet and outlet. Associated with the valve is a removable cartridge comprising a mounting head and a spindle connected to a shutter. The shutter has a first opening on its bottom, communicating with the fluid inlet connected to an internal chamber. On the side of the spindle an second opening is provided, also connected to the internal chamber. The spindle can be rotated to a first position where the second opening does not communicate with the outlet of the valve body. The spindle can be rotated to a second position where the second opening communicates with the outlet of the valve body, thereby allowing fluid flow from the inlet of the valve body, through spindle and finally through the outlet of the valve body.
