The present invention relates to a lavatory dispensing device (40) comprising: a hanger having a hanger means (42) adapted to be suspended to the end (26) of an overflow tube (24) provided within the cistern or tank (10) of a sanitary appliance, and a compressed solid block composition (46) comprising at least one chemical agent. Said lavatory dispensing device (40) is adapted to be suspended within the interior of the overflow tube (24) . Proximate to the conclusion of a flush interval, during which or subsequent to the time wherein the water from the cistern (10) is released into the toilet bowl, a treatment composition formed by contacting the compressed block (46) with the water supplied to the interior of the overflow tube (24) is delivered into the bowl .
