An optical waveguide comprising a body of material configured for the contained propagation of light therethrough, a surface relief grating configured to receive the propagating light and at least partially to diffract or reflect it out of the waveguide, and at least one layer of dielectric material of varying thickness having a first surface and a second surface which conforms to a profiled surface of the grating so that the grating exhibits a spatial variation in efficiency dependent on the varying thickness of the dielectric material.

La présente invention concerne un guide d'ondes optique comprenant un corps fait d'un matériau configuré de façon à assurer une propagation contenue de la lumière, un réseau à relief de surface configuré pour recevoir la lumière qui se propage et pour la faire sortir du guide d'ondes par diffraction ou réflexion, et au moins une couche de matériau diélectrique d'épaisseur variable présentant une première surface ainsi qu'une seconde surface qui épouse la forme d'une surface profilée du réseau de sorte que ledit réseau présente une variation spatiale dont l'efficacité dépend de l'épaisseur variable du matériau diélectrique.
