A compound comprising a cyclopentanone, cyclopentenone, cyclohexanone or cyclohexenone group, wherein a first ring carbon atom carries an -SR substituent, R is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, aralkyl, aralkenyl, or aralkynyl group that, optionally, includes at least one heteroatom in its carbon skeleton, the remaining available ring carbon atoms are optionally substituted, and said compound either:- (a) is more soluble in water at a temperature of 20 - 40~C; (b) is less lipophilic; and/or, (c) has a greater therapeutic index; or; (d) is less soluble in water at a temperature of 20 - 40~C; (e) is more lipophilic; and/or, (f) has a greater therapeutic index; than an equivalent cyclohex-2-en-1-one or cyclopent- 2-en-1-one derivative in which a hydrogen atom replaces said - SR group.

L'invention concerne un composé comprenant un groupe de cyclopentanone, de cyclopentenone, de cyclohéxanone ou de cyclohéxenone, dans lequel un premier atome de carbone annulaire supporte un substituant -SR, R représentant un groupe de alkyle, alcényle, alcynyle, aryle, aralkyle, aralcényle, ou aralcynyle substitué ou non substitué, qui renferme, éventuellement au moins un hétéro-atome dans son squelette carboné, les atomes de carbone annulaires disponibles restant étant éventuellement substitués, et le composé de l'invention étant soit : (a) plus soluble dans l'eau à une température comprise entre 20 et 40· C; (b) moins lipophilique; et/ou, (c) doté d'un index thérapeutique supérieur; ou; (d) moins soluble dans l'eau à une température comprise entre 20 et 40 ·C; (e) plus lipophilique; et/ou, (f) doté d'un index thérapeutique supérieur; par rapport à un dérivé cyclohex-2-en-1-one ou cyclopent-2-en-1-one équivalent dans lequel un atome d'hydrogène remplace le groupe -SR susmentionné.
