The invention relates to improved security documents such as banknotes, cheques and passports which are required to provide a high degree of security against imitation and a substrate for producing such security documents. A substrate for security documents and the like according to the invention comprises a first layer (16) of biaxially oriented polymeric film laminated together with a second layer (15) of biaxially oriented polymeric film with a metallic layer (18) between, and a third layer (14) of biaxially oriented polymeric film laminated to the second layer with a partially metallised metallic layer (19) therebetween, the metal in each metallic layer being the same or visually similar.

L'invention concerne l'amélioration de documents de sécurité tels que des billets de banque, des chèques et des passeports, cette amélioration permettant de garantir un haut degré de sécurité contre les imitations; l'invention concerne également un substrat permettant de produire ces documents de sécurité. Un substrat de documents de sécurité et analogues selon l'invention comprend une première (16) couche de film polymère à orientation biaxiale laminée à une deuxième (15) couche de film polymère à orientation biaxiale, une couche métallique (18) étant disposée entre elles; et une troisième (14) couche de film polymère à orientation biaxiale laminée à la deuxième couche, une couche métallique partiellement métallisée (19) étant disposée entre les couches, et le métal contenu dans chaque couche métallique étant le même ou présentant des similarités visuelles.
