The present specification discloses a gas fired heater having a control lever (13) which is movable to open a flame failure valve (53,59) and a main gas supply valve (49,50). The main gas supply valve (49, 50) is connected to at least one burner (5,7) by a thermostatically controlled valve (71) and/or, when two or more burners are provided, via a preselector valve (75).
