The present invention provides a filtering ar- rangement for attaching POTS filters to in-building multi-pair telephone cable to form separate POTS and DSL communications channels. In one embodiment, the incoming subscriber loop is disconnected at the NID from the primary pair of the in-building telephone cable and reconnected to an unterminated second pair. Inside the home or office, preferably inside a tele- phone wall jack junction box, a POTS filter is in- stalled that bridges the second pair to the primary pair. The second pair carries the unfiltered DSL and POTS communications channels. To this pair are con- nected devices that communicate over the DSL channel. The primary pair now carries the POTS channel only, the DSL channel having been filtered out by the POTS fil- ter. To the primary pair are connected all telephone instruments that communicate over the POTS channel.
