An in-flight entertainment (IFE) system includes a network having at least one wireless router for communicating wirelessly between a network server and one or more video display unit (VDU) in the cabin. The wireless transmission of video signals provides a reduced architecture that avoids a need for cables to carry a signal to the VDU~s. In an embodiment, the IFE system further facilitates the use of a remote wireless device, such as a laptop computer, as the VDU. Clients may select from a variety of programs which can be distributed in an on-demand or broadcast manner. Encryption means are further provided to enable control over content distribution to only authorized devices.

L'invention concerne un système de divertissement de bord à communication sans fil qui comprend un réseau comprenant au moins un routeur sans fil permettant de communiquer sans fil entre un serveur de réseau et une ou plusieurs unités de visualisation dans la cabine. La transmission sans fil de signaux vidéo permet d'obtenir une architecture réduite qui rend superflu le transport d'un signal aux unités de visualisation par des câbles. Dans un mode de réalisation, le système de divertissement de bord à communication sans fil facilite l'utilisation d'un dispositif sans fil distant, tel qu'un ordinateur portable, en tant qu'unité de visualisation. Les clients peuvent sélectionner, parmi différents programmes, un programme pouvant être distribué sur demande ou radiodiffusé. L'invention concerne également des moyens de chiffrement qui permettent de commander la distribution de contenu uniquement aux dispositifs autorisés.
