ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A strip shaped magnetic sheet is wrapped around the periphery of the neck section of an in-line color picture tube. Eight magnetizing coils are disposed around said strip shaped magnetic sheet at intervals of 45°, and predetermined patterns are imaged on said color picture tube. Reference tables indicating the relationship between the error of the generated pattern and magnetization currents for compensating the error are stored in a memory beforehand. A CPU reads out a current corresponding to the detected error and controls magnetiz- ing circuits so as to let flow said current through a determined magnetizing coil. After demagnetization has been completed, said eight magnetizing coils are removed from the neck section.
