ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: An in-line fire detector of a fire protection and alarm system provided with a electric insulator consisting of short lengthes of preferably a ceramic pipe disposed within the space between the inside electrode and the out- side electrode. The inside electrode together with the insulator is covered with a thin layer of a salt or a mix- ture of salts or a mixture of salt or salts with other com- ponents and is disposed in the interior of the outside electrode in such a way that between the insulator and the internal wall of the outside electrode an air space is formed on the length of the detector, whereby the insulator remains in point-type contact with the internal wall of the outside electrode over the thin layer of a salt or of a mixture of salts. The invention solves the problem of a fire detector with increased operational reliability.
