ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A process is provided for detecting nucleic acid sequences within a cell in suspension. A technique for directly hybridizing labelled deoxyoligonucleotides with cellular DNA or RNA sequences contained in suspended, intact cells is disclosed along with techniques for separating cells containing hybridized DNA or RNA from cells that do not contain hybridized DNA or RNA.
