A coal formation may be treated using an in situ thermal process. Heat may be applied to the formation to raise a temperature of a portion of the formation to a pyrolysis temperature. Heat input into the formation may be controlled to raise the temperature of portion at a selected rate during pyrolysis of hydrocarbons within the formation. A mixture of hydrocarbons, H2, and/or other formation fluids may be produced from the formation. The mixture may be separated into condensable hydrocarbons and non-condensable hydrocarbons. The condensable hydrocarbons removed from the formation may be a high quality oil that has a relatively low olefin content and a relatively high API gravity. Synthesis gas 1140 exiting production well 1142 may be supplied to catalytic methanation plant 1144. Methane 1146 may be produced by catalytic methanation plant 1144. Steam 1148 produced by plant 1144 my be supplied to injection well 1141 for production of synthesis gas.
L'invention se rapporte à une formation houillère qu'il est possible de traiter au moyen d'un processus thermique in situ. La chaleur peut être appliquée à la formation de manière à élever la température d'une partie de la formation jusqu'à une température de pyrolyse. L'entrée de chaleur dans la formation peut être régulée de manière à élever la température de ladite partie à une vitesse sélectionnée pendant la pyrolyse des hydrocarbures au sein de la formation. Un mélange d'hydrocarbures, de dihydrogène et/ou d'autres fluides de formation peuvent être produits par la formation. Ledit mélange peut être divisé en hydrocarbures condensables et en hydrocarbures non condensables. Les hydrocarbures condensables extraits de la formation peuvent constituer un pétrole de grande qualité possédant une teneur en oléfines relativement faible et une densité API relativement élevée.
