An in vitro microorgan culture, method for forming the same and uses thereof are provided. The cells in the culture, for example hair follicles, are capable of proliferation and/or homeostasis over an extended period of time while maintaining their natural affinity for neighboring cells. The microorgan cultures are characterized by a surface area to volume ratio of at least 1.5mm- 1.
