An in vitro model system for viral infection is comprised of a tissue block from adult tonsil or lymph node supported on a matrix which is flexible and porous and wherein the supported tissue block is cultured in a medium whose surface is congruent with the tissue block/matrix interface. The histoculture system can be used to screen for antiviral drugs and to monitor the course of viral diseases.

Ce système de modèle in vitro destiné à une infection virale se compose d'un bloc tissulaire, lequel provient d'une amygdale ou d'un ganglion d'adulte et est supporté par une matrice souple et poreuse, et il consiste à faire une culture de ce bloc tissulaire dans un milieu dont la surface est congruente avec l'interface matrice/bloc tissulaire. On peut utiliser ce système d'histoculture pour cribler des médicaments antiviraux et pour surveiller l'évolution de maladies virales.
