The present invention relates to an in vitro method for screening agents inducing islet cell neogenesis or duct-to-islet cell transdifferentiation, which comprises the steps of: a) expanding in vitro cells of a duct-like structure obtained by inducing cystic formation in cells in or associated with post-natal islets of Langerhans; b) treating said expanded cells of said duct- like structure with an agent screened; and c) determining potency of said agent of inducing islet cell differentiation of said duct-like structure in becoming insulin-producing cells.

L'invention porte sur une méthode in vitro de criblage d'agents inducteurs de la néogenèse des îlots de Langerhans ou de la transdifférentiation conduit en îlots comporte les étapes suivantes: a) expansion in vitro de cellules d'une structure du type conduit obtenue par induction de formations cystiques de cellules des îlots de Langerhans postnataux ou associées; b) traitement desdites cellules expansées par un agent criblé; et c) détermination du pouvoir dudit agent à induire la différenciation des cellules du conduit en îlots de Langerhans capables de produire de l'insuline.
