Electric in-wheel motors to date are made by installing a typical electric motor on a wheel. The said motor includes the stator, rotor and tire rim connected together by a sealed bearing. In this invention the motor bearing is eliminated and the stator and rotor are attached to separate rims: the rotor rim is sandwiched between the tire rim and the brake, and the stator rim is sandwiched between the suspension frame and the brake. In this way the installation and construction of the motor is simplified by using the existing bearing of the wheel. The stator, being the fixed part of the motor containing the coils is sealed separately from the rotor containing the magnets. The motor is designed on an open and simple architecture that eliminates bearings, bearing seals, cooling liquid access thru the bearing core, and allows for a simple method of heat dissipation.
