A method of inactivating viruses that may be present in a whole blood or blood product intended for administration to an individual is disclosed. The whole blood or blood product sample is treated with an effective quantity of a hydroxymethylamine of formula (I). An exemplary hydroxymethylamine is N- hydroxymethylglycine and salts thereof.

La présente invention concerne un procédé d'inactivation de virus susceptibles d'être présents dans le sang total ou un produit sanguin destiné à l'administration à un individu. Le procédé consiste à traiter le sang total ou le prélèvement de produit sanguin avec une quantité suffisante d'hydroxyméthylamine représentée par la formule générale (I).
