ABSBRACT IMPROVEMENTS IN INCINERATION APPARATUS In incineration apparatus for purifying effluents from industrial processes, in which there are a plurality of sections 24 containing heat-exchange beds 26 communi- cating with a high temperature incineration zone 28, the flow of effluent through the beds and the direction of flow is controlled by double valves 15,17; 21,23; 31,33; 45,47 in series at the inlet and outlet of each section 24 so as to reduce leakage of the effluents past the valves when they are in a nominally closed position and prevent release of noxious gases into the ambient air. Addition- ally, purified heated gas from the incinerator may be fed under pressure, via duct 36 and ring duct 20, between the valves of each set to suppress the flow of noxious effluent past any of the valves when they are supposed to be closed.
