The present invention provides systems and methods for simulating certain regions of the anatomy involved in ophthalmological surgery. In particular, the present invention provides a practice cornea simulating dimensional, geometric and mechanical properties of a human cornea. In one embodiment, the practice cornea is seated in tight apposition to a simulated iris that is characterized by dimensional and geometric properties similar to a human iris. The practice cornea seated upon the simulated iris may be inserted into an aperture in a simulated sclera, forming therewith a smooth surface similar to that found in the anterior part of the human eye. The simulated sclera may be provided with dimensional and geometric characteristics resembling the human sclera. The combination of these elements provides an anatomic replica of the anterior part of the human eye upon which surgeons may realistically practice surgical techniques, in particular corneal incisions.
La présente invention concerne des systèmes et des procédés pour simuler certaines régions anatomiques faisant l'objet d'une chirurgie ophtalmologique. En particulier, la présente invention concerne une cornée d'entraînement qui stimule les propriétés dimensionnelles, géométriques et mécaniques d'une cornée humaine. Dans un mode de réalisation, la cornée d'entraînement est fixée en apposition serrée à un iris simulé qui présente par des propriétés géométriques et dimensionnels semblables à celles d'un iris humain. La cornée d'entraînement fixée à l'iris simulé peut être insérée dans une ouverture dans une sclérotique simulée, formant avec celle-ci une surface lisse semblable à celle présente dans la partie antérieure de l'oeil humain. La sclérotique simulée peut présenter des caractéristiques dimensionnelles et géométriques semblables à celles de la sclérotique humaine. La combinaison de ces éléments permet d'obtenir un modèle anatomique de la partie antérieure de l'oeil humain sur lequel les chirurgiens peuvent pratiquer des techniques chirurgicales, en particulier des incisions cornéennes.
