ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION An inclined plate type flowmeter measures the horizontal reaction resulting from solids striking the plate by using long- itudinally spaced pairs of strain gauges to detect the difference in bending moments occuring at longitudinally spaced points on a cantilever supporting the plate against horizontal movement. The difference of the outputs of two such flowmeters at the top and bottom of a vertical section of conduit carrying air entrain- ed solids provides an output proportional to the flow rate of the solids.
