An electronic inclinometer, or level, having a sensor mounted on a plate adapted to be mounted on a beam. The sensor includes a vial containing a fluid electrolyte, the position of which can be determined electrically by any suitable means. Preferably the electrolyte and the material surrounding the vial are chosen to minimize the effects of temperature changes on the accuracy of the inclinometer. The beam is made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic to minimize thermal expansion of the beam.
