ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides reagents and methods for the synthesis of oligonucleotides having single or multiple reporter groups attached for use in detection assays, wherein the reporter groups may be precisely spaced with respect to one another. The invention further provides oligonucleotides having single or multiple reporter groups attached in a manner in which the spacing between the reporter groups is controlled.
